closure on ia 92 i-235 @ mlk first on 13... this morning central iowa is drenched to the core after a weekend of wet weather.. and the record rainfall is causing des moines' rivers to push their banks. the des moines river... at southeast 6th street... currently sits at flood stage... at 24 feet. it's expected to crest early wednesday morning at nearly 26 feet. you can expect moderate

the area. the raccoon river... at fleur drive... is sitting right at its flood stage. it's at 13 feet... and will likely crest at more than 16 feet... on wednesday morning. drivers are already noticing the effects of moderate flooding in that area... george flagg parkway... from southwest 30th street to park avenue... is closed. no word yet on when it will reopen. the rain is also dampening a holiday tradition for many metro families.... i certainly have personally been involved in a number of floods in december and january and february... but they're ice related, not rain related. "jolly holiday lights" has closed for the season... the annual event ended operations nearly 2 weeks early because of flooding. that's because it jeopardizes the safety of volunteers... and risks damage to the more than 100

the "make a wish" organization's budget. "jolly holiday lights" is its largest fundraiser of the year... but officials are staying positive... 1,100 cars already went through. last year, at the end of all of this, we had 28,000 cars go through. that tremendous support, we don't take for granted. this is our 20th anniversary. please continue to support us - our kids need it. in the past... the event has closed temporarily due to blizzards or vandalism. it's never been shut down entirely. police say a man who opened fire in a fort dodge bar is still on the run... officers are looking for 23 year old jordan foy. police say he's a convicted felon... who should be considered armed and dangerous. they say foy fired shots into the air at the "dodger tap"... on north 12th street... sunday morning. it happened after he got into a fight with another person. no one was seriously hurt... but police say the situation should

it's very serious because you are putting a lot of people's lives in danger of people just trying to have a good time and then they get put in danger. foy will likely face two charges... "intimidation with a dangerous weapon" and "possession of a firearm as a felon." fort dodge police are also investigating a suspicious death over the weekend... officers were called to the one hundred block of 8th street yesterday morning. officials say someone found the body of a man in the grass between two homes.. the body was taken to des moines for an autopsy... but the name is being withheld until family members are notified. a union county man is behind bars for his role in the deaths of two people... police announced the arrest of 37 year old jerry dillinger over the weekend. dillinger faces two counts of first degree murder. he's the former brother in law of 37 year old loretta dillinger... whose body was found in a pond near lorimor earlier this month. authorities say additional

they have not been identified. iowa's governor earns a new title today... longest serving governing in u - s history. terry branstad is serving his 6th term... and hasn't even officially declared its his last. he first started serving the state back in 19 - 72.. when he was elected to the iowa house. he then proceeded to hold the governor position for about 21 years.. not consecutively. branstad will mark the occasion with two events today... the first is a free open house at the governor's formal office in the iowa capitol. it's open to the public from 10 a - m to 4 p - m. that's followed by a dinner and program on the iowa state fairgrounds... at six. very few tickets to the event remain. hundreds of waukee students will soon know where they're going to school next year. the school board is set to vote on a new boundary proposal tonight. channel 13's josh nguyen joins us now with proposal details...

expected to pass. good morning, josh. -here is what we know so far. there will be a new elementary called grant ragan wnd it will open in the fall. it will help with the rapid growth within the district. last year they expanded by 675 students. they've witness growth like this before. this will be the 7th time they have gone through the boundary process to assign students to new schools. last year they formed a boundary committee to sort out the details of the new schools. things like, which students from what neighborhood would be going and what those students will middle school will they go to. it has been quite a process. they have met several times with a consultant to develop a recommendation to the school board. which they present last month. they will meet with the school board again tonight at 6 and here is

center" has created a super - sized advent calender. artwork designed by local students is added to a window each day... then lit at night. and it's causing many residents to stop and stare... i could hear people taking pictures, so i peaked out my window and they saw me and were waving and thumbs up-ing. its been pretty fun. this is just one more way of presenting that concept, and we wanted this one to be for the community to enjoy and we wanted to give them a german christmas present for the holiday season. all of the windows will stay lit until january 3rd. there is also an exhibit of 50 traditional advent calenders in the

rain continues to fall this morning across central iowa. the rain has triggered numerous flood warnings along the des moines and raccoon rivers. over 3" of rain has fallen in des moines, with most areas throughout central iowa with at least 2" of rain thus far. rain will continue through noon. another half inch of rain or more will be possible in most cases. rain will be slowly winding down through the morning on monday and a few snow flakes may mix in in western and northwestern iowa. dry conditions are expected this afternoon with cloudy skies, windy weather and colder temperatures. the rest of the week still looks to be chilly with daytime highs dropping from the

the coolest invention for adventurous parents is here... this contraption allows them to take their toddlers on skateboarding trips. it consists of an elongated skateboard... which has the seat section of a stroller attached to the front of it. it also has a brake at the back... and handlebars for steering. only eight have been made so far... and are being tested for health and safety measures. santa claus has traded his sleigh... for a paddle board. the jolly old elf floated on lake erie over the weekend... accompanied by his reindeer. they floated past some of cleveland's landmarks... including the home of the browns. and the team must have been on the nice list... because they

elementary" in newtown. police say 20 year old adam lanza shot his mother before mounting his attack at the school. lanza turned his gun on himself as police closed in. the connecticut governor has requested flags in the state be lowered to half staff. closing arguments begin today in the trial of a baltimore officer... the prosecution has presented evidence that went far beyond what the public expected, and that's what makes their case very strong william porter is the first of six officers to be charged in the death of freddie gray. gray died from spinal injuries received while in custody earlier this year. prosecutors argue porter went against department policy by not securing gray in the back of a police transport van. the defense argues the opposite... that standard protocol was not to use seat belts. porter faces several charges... including "involuntary
